Poetry Contests For 2008/2009

Entering poetry contests is a great way to get your name out there and get published, but you have to make sure you are dealing with a legitimate contest and not a scam.

I personally never enter anything but free poetry contests. I also research the company to make sure that it's a legitimate contest. I would rather win a free poetry magazine for a small press publication then to end up being solicited into a vanity press that's basically meaningless that promises poet's thousands of dollars in prizes.

Some legitimate contests do require a small fee which they use towards cash prizes for the winners. It's up to you whether it's worth it to take a chance on losing a few dollars.

The Poetry Sanctuary is running a free poetry contest. - The deadline is December 1, 2008.

PoeticePower.com is offering contests for those in the United States and Canada - The deadline is December 11, 2008.

Pandora's Collective offers several poetry contests - The deadlines are September 15, 2008 and January 15, 2009.

Utmost Christian Writers is offering a poetry contest for Christians. - The deadline is February 28, 2009.
